Hello and welcome!
.I had been dabbling in the arts for many years, but it wasn’t until 2017 that I identified a style and subject matter that really resonated – detailed natural illustrations. A self taught artist, I love to use acrylic gouache as my medium, using its matte opaque qualities to create bold lines and colours that really make the subject jump off the page.
As a device to provide discipline to my art practice and a way to further develop my skills, I embarked on a daily painting challenge for the month of April. For 30 days I painted a sea creature each day, posting it to Instagram under the hashtag “UnderwaterApril”.
This proved invaluable in developing my style and technique that defines my current work and also opened further opportunity to research the many stunning creatures out in the natural world, their life stories and the importance of projecting vulnerable species.
Work created as part of this series was selected as a finalist in the 2017 Bayton Awards and I has also had work tour Queensland finalist in the 2017 Queensland Regional Arts Awards.
After struggling to find a balance between my full time corporate job and my dream of being an artist, I spend a year planning and saving and as of November 2019 I left the corporate world and moved to Brisbane to pursue art full time!
And so here we are… thank you for reading this far and I hope you stick around and follow where this new venture takes me!
